    Hidetoshi Nakata

    General Producer of Intemational Ceramics Festival’17 Mino Japan

    Hidetoshi Nakata played in 3 World Cups held in France (1998), Japan-Korea (2002) and Germany (2006).
    After the world cup in Germany, he retired from professional soccer.

    After his retirement, he traveled to more than 100 countries and areas. In 2008, he started “TAKE ACTION! 2008+1”, a campaign to help solve world issues.
    In 2009, the TAKE ACTION FOUNDATION was founded

    From 2009, he started travelling to the 47 prefectures of Japan.
    This was the trigger for the founding of a project to support Japanese traditional culture and crafts.

    He took part in the promotion of Minoyaki in the soccer game held in Brazil and at the Milan World Expo.

    Since 2003, he has been the CBO of Tohato Inc.

    At the “GOLDEN FOOT AWARD LEGEND of 2014”, he became the first Asian winner of “All Time Legend”.

    He is also currently the FIFA Goodwill Ambassador.

    In 2015, he established the “JAPAN CRAFT SAKE COMPANY Inc.” and is carrying out activities to promote the attractiveness of Japanese sake.

    Yoshitomo Nara

    Artist

    Yoshitomo Nara is an artist and was born in 1959.
    He entered Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 1988 and continued to create until he came back to Japan in 2000.

    Nara is one of the artists who is representative of Japan, and presents various works such as drawings centered on paintings, objects with three dimensions (wood, FRP, ceramic, bronze), large installations using waste materials and photo works at art museums and galleries around the world.

    In 2001 and 2012 he held large personal exhibitions at the Yokohama Art Museum, and personal exhibitions at the Asia Society Museum (New York) in 2010 and at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center (Hong Kong) in 2015.

    Sousuke Fujimoto

    Architect

    Sousuke Fujimoto was born in Hokkaido in 1971.

    After he graduated from the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, he established Sou Fujimoto Architects in 2000.

    He won the Best Montpellier International Design Competition Award (France) in 2014, the best Saclay École Polytechnique Learning Center (Paris, France) International Design Competition Award in 2015 and the best Réinventer Porte Maillot District (Paris, France) International Design Competition Award in 2016.

    His masterpieces are the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion, London (2013), House NA (2011), Musashino Art University Library (2010), House N (2008), etc.

    Shuji Takahashi

    Director of Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu

    Shuji Takahashi was born in Gifu Prefecture in 1955.

    After working as a junior high school teacher, he participated in the preparatory work for setting up the Museum of Fine Arts, GIFU as a curator.
    He was in charge of collecting art works and creating catalogs of collections leading up to the opening in 1982 of the Museum of Fine Arts, GIFU.

    After that he developed exhibitions for Mino ceramic art and local artists.

    In 1986 he was transferred to Aichi Prefecture, and was instrumental in setting up the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art as its first curator, where he devised a collection strategy and initial organizational structures such as the personnel plan.
    In particular, he was responsible for collecting art works when the museum was opened in 1992.

    In his exhibition activities, he was in charge of ‘Permanent Collection’, in terms of planned exhibitions he was responsible for numerous exhibitions targeting both Japanese and overseas artists, such as ‘Andrew Wyeth Retrospective’, ‘ A Century of American Dream’ and ‘Yasuo Kuniyoshi ‘, etc.

    Gazo Fuji won a prize at the Le Salon (France, in 1888) as its second Japanese oil painting artist.
    However, after winning the prize, Fuji’s art work went missing.
    Fortunately, Shuji Takahashi found Fuji’s missing art work in an American museum for the first time in 120 years (in 2008).

    He served as the vice director of the Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art from 2011 until 2016 when he was appointed as the director of the Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu

    John Carpenter

    Curator of Japanese Art of the Metropolitan Museum of Art

    John Carpenter has worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art since the summer of 2011, and was recently appointed the Mary Griggs Burke Curator of Japanese Art. From 1999 to 2009 he taught the history of Japanese art at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, and served as Head of the London Office of the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures. He has also taught courses at the University of Heidelberg, and from 2009 to 2011 he was Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo. He has published widely on Japanese art, especially in the areas of calligraphy, painting, and woodblock prints. Among his recent publications is a catalogue of an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum, Designing Nature: The Rinpa Aesthetic in Japanese Art (2012).previousnextclose

    Olivier Gabet

    Director of the Museum of Decorative Arts, Paris

    Olivier Gabet is an art historian and a cultural heritage curator

    He began working at the Museum of Modern Art of Paris in 2005. Then he joined the Orsay museum, where he was in charge of collections of decorative arts. He was also responsible for a contemporary art program, “Correspondances” with many French and international living artists.

    In 2008, he led the project of Louvre Abu Dhabi as curator for decorative arts and then as deputy curatorial director.

    In 2013, at age 37, Olivier became director of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, including fashion and design collections.

    Olivier is 39 years old.

    Claudia Casali

    Art Historian / Director of the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza

    Dr. Casali obtained her degree in the Preservation of the Cultural Heritage and specialized in the history of contemporary art and aesthetic at the University of Udine, where she achieved the Doctorate (PhD) in aesthetic field, contemporary art and art critique. In 1997 she started a collaboration as art historian and critic with the Modern Art Gallery in Verona, the GAM in Bologna (the contemporary MAMBO), the MAR in Ravenna and since 2011 she has been managing the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza.
    She has collaborated with several international museums, taking part in art competitions and commissions for the selection of prizes, in particular in the ceramic field, such as Keskemet (Hungary), the Westerwald Prize (Germany), the Danish Prize (Denmark) and the Gmunden Symposium (Austria). She was invited to propose an expositive project to the Art Ceramic Biennial in Taiwan.
    She often serves as a lecturer at international symposiums and she has curated books devoted to contemporary art and ceramic art and she constantly follows with particular care the evolution of the contemporary language of ceramic art, promoting new talented artists who work in the sculptural field and create ceramic installations.
    She collaborates with art reviews and in general with the means of communication focused on art, she teaches the history of art, the history of ceramic art and museum disciplines for post-graduate training courses.
